Legalizing Marijuana

May 16, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Prime Minister Trudeau promised during the course of the election that Canada will stop criminalizing marijuana users.  Health Minister Jane Philpott recently told Canadians to expect legislation in early 2017.  Minister Philpott wants to make sure that Canada gets this right.

Use of marijuana for medical purposes is already legal in Canada.  Our guests will discuss the current system regulating medicinal use as well as the public policy and public safety implications of legalization for recreational use.  Prisons filling up with curious young people is also not in the best interest of society.  Critics point to the dangers of widespread use including the driving while under the influence.  What is the best way to decriminalize marijuana without endangering public safety?

Join us Monday May 16 at the Madison Avenue Pub for our discussion on the legalization of marijuana.  Joining us will be Alison Smiley, President of human factors north, and  Shega A’mula, Community Engagement Worker at Tweed Marijuana will be joining our panel.  Find out what some of challenges behind legalizing marijuana will be and share your thoughts with us.

Doors open at 7:00. Discussion starts promptly at 7:30.

Please RSVP to let us know you can join us.
