DESCRIPTION:Small community papers are closing across the country. The demise of local news means that outside of major urban areas\, people won’t know what’s happening in their own communities. \nWhat does this mean for a healthy democracy? What does it mean for society in general to have fewer sources of local information? \nJoin us February 26 for a discussion about the impact of losing community news. Andrea Janus\, a local reporter and editor\, and Carmel Smyth\, past president of the Canadian Media Guild\, will be leading a discussion about the importance of local news and what communities can do. \nWe will be at the Madison Pub at 14 Madison Avenue. \nDoors open 7:00pm\, discussion starts promptly at 7:30pm. \nPlease RSVP to let us know you can join us. \n  \n
