Many thanks to Don Stevenson for sharing his wealth of experience with the Why Should I Care? salon.  Everyone left with a better appreciation of the role of municipal government and a sense of how certain policies historically have affected our city.  Moving forward, we need to keep this history in mind to make good decisions in the future.

Politics has changed over the years and some might say for the better, but right now, most Canadians think its changed for the worse. Don Stevenson, a distinguished civil servant who has served under many governments and participated in reform at multiple levels will discuss the urban democratic landscape. He will share insights on how things have changed and lead a discussion on increasing voter engagement.

Many thanks to John Campey for leading our discussion and answering our many questions about the long form census and its cancellation. Most of us didn’t fully appreciate the consequences of losing such valuable information and the difference between a census and a survey.
