Gentrification and Displacement in the City

February 23, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

FREE

We’re teaming up with The Planning Clinic for a special event as part of the Toronto for Everyone festivities at Honest Ed’s! Join us for one or all parts of the evening.

Talk: Gentrification and Displacement in the City
6:00pm-7:30pm at Honest Ed’s, 581 Bloor Street West

Honest Ed’s was not just a kitschy shopping experience; for many, it was an affordable space and community hub. Join us for a talk exploring neighbourhood change across Toronto as bargain-shop retailers exit areas. Specifically, how do these changes affect neighbourhood inclusivity and what are strategies to avoid displacement as neighbourhoods change? How do we build equity into the planning process and what are the best practices around maintaining commercial affordability through the planning and development process? Guest speakers to be announced soon.

Free ticket reservation is required for admission. RSVP here:
https://attend.torontoforeveryone.com/hub/en/registration.html

Accessibility: The Community Hub at Honest Ed’s will be wheelchair accessible. Audio assistance will be available. Children are welcome to attend.

Guided Walk: Honest Ed’s to The Madison Avenue Pub
8:00pm-8:30pm

Join us as we head over to The Madison, talking about how the Annex has changed in recent decades along the way. Meet on Bloor Street West near the Honest Ed’s alleyway.

After Party
8:30pm-10pm at The Madison Avenue Pub

Continue the conversation informally at The Madison, 14 Madison Avenue. We’ll be in the same space our downtown events are usually held, in the north building.
