Why Should I Care about Investing in Innovation?

January 13, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Technology is consistently changing the way we live and do business. Innovation can accelerate positive social and economic change yet many companies that are trying to change business models – Uber and Airbnb are just two examples – are being held back by regulation challenges. In many ways, Canada is behind the curve. How do we build a system that’s able to adapt quickly to innovation? Locally, we have many think tanks and business incubators but are we doing enough to encourage innovation and support entrepreneurs?

Join us on January 13th as we welcome some very special guests to share their opinions on what’s working, what’s not, and how we can make positive change. Tim Hudak, PC MPP and former leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, will speak about his private member’s bill aimed at regulating the sharing economy. Rachel Zimmer, co-founder and Partner of 5Crowd, will speak about her experience as an entrepreneur. Sonia Strimban, Manager of Venture Operations at MaRS, and Kelsey Spitz, Senior Associate at Social Innovation Generation, will discuss the work their organizations are doing in this space.

We will be at our Uptown location, The Rose and Crown Pub, at 2335 Yonge Street (at Eglinton). Doors open for informal networking at 7:00pm and the discussion starts at 7:30pm. As always, this event is free, you just have to pay for what you order.

Please RSVP on Eventbrite to let us know you will be joining us.
