Mental Healthcare in Education

September 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The last several years has seen an increase in awareness about mental illness and with it better resources for those who need help.

Finland and Australia have been on the leading edge of mental health research in the education system and policies adopted here are often trickled down from their work.  The start of each new school year is when changes to special education support are made, and sometimes it is to the detriment of students.  Many parents feel that they cannot the help they need.

Join Deborah Goldberg, counsel from the Ministry of Education, and Patricia Marra-Stapleton, Mental Health Leader for the Toronto District Catholic School Board, joins us for a talk about how we can reduce barriers to accessing mental health care for students and the role all of us play in reducing the stigma around students receiving that care.

We will be meeting at the Madison Pub (14 Madison Avenue) on Monday September 18.

Doors open 7:00. Discussion starts promptly at 7:30pm.
