Fair Housing Plan – Is it going to work?

August 14, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

The Ontario government introduced a “Fair Housing Plan” in April as a response to runaway housing prices and tenants facing massive rent increases they could ill afford.

Toronto has already seen the market start to cool thanks to the speculation tax and tightening mortgage rules, but will this have a lasting effect? Vancouver rebounded barely 9 months later. Renters should see some short term relief but the fear will be that, like rent control in the 90s, this discourages new units from coming online. Given the high home ownership rates compared to other countries, does it even make sense to pursue an agenda that encourages home buying as opposed to renting?

Real Estate agents, landlords, and tenants are all watching the market anxiously to gauge the impact of the 16 point plan.

Tim Hudak, President of the Ontario Real Estate Association and former leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, is joined by Brandon Sage, a property manager with Landlord Realty and former Vice-President Organization of the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario), to discuss what they think the long term impact of the Fair Housing Plan will be.

Join us Monday August 14 at the Madison Avenue Pub. As always, our events are free (you just have to pay for what you order).

Doors open at 7:00pm and the discussion starts promptly at 7:30.

Please RSVP to let us know you can join us.
