Should we invest in Basic Income?

March 16, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

The past few years have been dominated by economic woes. The Great Depression lead to world wide pain, and in certain countries temporary chaos and low income people were some of the hardest hit. Governments have tried any and all measures to reestablish conditions necessary for jobs, and most appear to be failing.

Here in Canada, due to the recently high price of oil, we have been relatively insulated, yet young people still experience high rates of unemployment. Now with oil prices significantly lower, the government is turning up its rhetoric on austerity, even though austerity continues to cripple European countries. Certainly there are no silver bullets to ensuring a healthy Canadian economy.

Join us on Monday March 16th when our guests Sheila Regehr of Basic Income Canada and Jonathan Sas of the Broadbent institute discuss alternative economic policies for improving the well-being of Canadians.

We will be at our new home: Wind Up Bird at 382 College St (College and Borden, just West of Spadina). Be sure to try out some delicious creations by their award winning chef. Networking starts at 7:00 and the discussion begins at 7:30pm as usual ending at 9pm. Feel free to come early for a bite to eat.
