Why Should I Care about Road Infrastructure?

April 15, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Toronto’s Gardiner expressway has twice, in the last year, had concrete fall off threatening the lives of people in the cars below.  What we do with it remains a contentious issue partly because cost, but also because of differing visions of what transportation infrastructure should look like.

Dr. Eric Miller, a transportation professor at the University of Toronto, will be joining us for a discussion about how best to deal with Gardiner and Toronto’s road infrastructure in general.  Proposals have ranged from selling the expressway, tolling it, to downright demolishing it.  What we choose to do will have a profound impact on life in this city and delaying the decision could be a costly move.

Calvin Brook, an architect and urban planner from Brook McIlroy will also be joining this discussion.  He’ll add his experience and insight to help put the Gardiner into an urban design context.  How will the various options affect how we interact in a city?

Have thoughts about this? Join us on Monday, April 15, at the Duke of York (39 Prince Arthur Ave), and have them heard. If you just want to sit, listen, and have a drink, that’s fine too.  As always, the event is free.

Please RSVP using our Eventbrite page. Doors open 7:00, discussion starts at 7:30.
