Public Broadcasting: Is it still critical?

September 21, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Please note: with the federal election coming up, we at WSIC would like to look at some important federal topics.

A free and independent press is one of the pillars of democracy. The CBC has provided Canadians unprecedented access to information and media for nearly 80 years. However, this cultural icon has come under tremendous financial pressure over the last decade. The CBC has seen its funding and mandate reduced for the purpose of saving taxpayers money.

In the age of internet, instant communication, and social media, how relevant is having a national, public broadcaster? What should the role of the CBC and organizations such as TVO be?

Join us on September 21st for our next WSIC discussion led by Steve Paikin, host of The Agenda, and Carmel Smyth, President of the Canadian Media Guild. We will be meeting at The Madison Pub (14 Madison Avenue). Doors open at 7:00pm for informal networking, and the discussion starts promptly at 7:30.

Please RSVP to let us know you are coming.
