WSIC about Health Care Sustainability?

August 19, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

According to a TD economics special report:

Ontario is confronted with a serious fiscal issue. Every year, government spending on health care increases more than revenues. As a result the amount available for other government spending decreases. If current trends prevail, health care expenditures would make up 80 per cent of total program spending by 2030, up from 46 per cent today. All other programs, such as education, would be funded out of the remaining 20 per cent. This is not feasible.

Much of this expenditure increase is attributed to an aging population with greater demands on the health care system.  Dr. Ernie Lightman, an economics and social policy professor at UofT will discuss why we need to care about elder care and how we can make sure that our health care system is sustainable in the future.  He is joined by Dr. Zayna  Khayat is a senior leader with the International Centre for Health Innovation, a “do tank” conceived by Industry Canada in 2009 to catalyze the adoption of health innovations in health systems across Canada.  The Centre works with private industry, health system leaders, regulators and payers, academic researchers and students and postdocs across numerous disciplines to build capacity for health innovation in Canada, and to build the evidence base for what innovations have proven value creation.

Join us on Monday, August 19 at the Duke of York (39 Prince Arthur Ave), ask your questions and share your thoughts about Canada’s Health Care system. If you just want to sit, listen, and have a drink, that’s fine too.  As always, the event is free.

Please RSVP using our Eventbrite page. Doors open 7:00, discussion starts at 7:30.
